Emeritus Bishop Peter Ingham

Health update on Bishop Emeritus Peter Ingham

March 31, 2023

My Sisters and Brothers in Christ

I have been receiving requests over recent months from people in the diocese asking for an update on the health condition of Bishop Emeritus Peter Ingham.

In 2016, Bishop Peter was diagnosed with a disease that restricts his airways and therefore his capacity to strenuously exert himself. A few months ago, there came a noticeable change in Bishop Peter’s ability to do the normal things of life. He recently recognised that he was no longer able to live by himself and care for himself as he did before. He has moved into supported care with friends and is also receiving assistance from the team at Greenwich Hospital. It is our hope, at this time, that he will remain in this supported care for as long as possible.

I ask you to continue to hold Bishop Peter in your prayers so he may continue to be strengthened as he now enters this next stage of his journey. He has asked that I convey to you his gratitude for the many prayers and supportive messages he is receiving. He apologises that he cannot reply to all the messages personally, but wants to assure you that he prays God’s blessings on all who are so supportive of him.

Yours in Christ,

Most Rev Brian G Mascord DD
Bishop of Wollongong
