St Clare’s Church Narellan Vale Breaks Ground

May 29, 2026

A new church begins long before the first wall is built. It begins with faith, prayer, and a community willing to build its future on Christ.

Yesterday was a joyful and hope-filled day for the community of St Clare’at Narellan Vale in the parish of St Paul’s Camden, as parishioners, families and guests gathered for the Turning of the Sod for the new church.

Bishop Brian Mascord blessed the site and joined Fr Michael Williams (Parish Priest of St Paul’s Camden), Fathers Victor Vincent and Hung Tran (Assistant Priests at Camden), Sr Ann-Marie Joyce OSC of the Poor Clare Sisters, students, families, Director of Schools Peter Hill, Principal Margaret Folds and staff from St Clare’s Catholic Primary School, representatives from the Catholic Development Fund and the Office of the Bishop, and the construction team from Paynter Dixon in marking the beginning of this important new chapter.

More than the beginning of a building project, today was an act of faith, a moment to give thanks for all that has led to this point, and to look ahead with hope to a church that will become a spiritual home for generations to come.

As Bishop Brian reflected, this new church will be a place where people can bring their lives before God, their hopes, struggles, prayers and joys, and encounter Christ in the life of the Church.

Inspired by Saint Clare of Assisi, whose life was marked by prayer, simplicity and deep devotion to Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, this new church will one day be a place where people gather before Jesus in the Eucharist, draw strength from his presence, and encounter his love in the midst of ordinary life.

In time, this place will hold so many moments of grace: children baptised, families gathered, prayers offered, Mass celebrated, and lives strengthened by the presence of Christ.

May this new church become a place of welcome, prayer, Eucharistic love and mission, a home for the people of God in the region, and a light for all who seek him.

As yesterday’s reading reminded us: “You are God’s building… no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid; that is Jesus Christ.”

May Saint Clare pray for this parish community as this sacred work begins.
