Milton church saved in fire

December 31, 2019

Please keep your prayers going for those in the Shoalhaven region of our diocese. There have been reports that our St Mary Star of Sea Catholic Church in Milton (pictured) was burned down in a fire this afternoon.

Resident priest of the church, Fr Michael Dyer, has confirmed that the church and parish school next door have been saved from damage by wonderful locals who doused the approaching flames.

Fr Michael and all have been evacuated safely. Fr Michael appreciates your prayers and support during this time.

So many communities have been greatly impacted by serious injury, the loss of property and livestock, and they need our support – spiritually, emotionally and financially. For this reason I encourage you to support the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVdP) which has a dedicated website.  The SVDP is able to then direct funds to where they are most needed.

Merciful and loving Father,

Look down in your love upon all those who protect us from the ravages of fire and flame.

Grant them the courage and skills to carry out their duties diligently and safely. When they must go into the face of danger, be by their side in the smoke and flames.

Watch over their families, ever reminding them that those who fight fire are also in your loving care.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

St Mary Star of the Sea, pray for us.
St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, pray for us.
St Florian, pray for us.
