Honouring Service, Strengthening Community—Bishop’s Thank You Gathering 2025

December 23, 2025

Recently, Bishop Brian Mascord hosted his annual Thank You Gathering, an evening dedicated to honouring the many people whose commitment and generosity help the Diocese of Wollongong to thrive.

The gathering brought together clergy, diocesan supporters, dedicated volunteers from advisory councils and committees, and leadership teams from across every pastoral work. It was an opportunity to pause, reflect, and give thanks for the countless ways these individuals bring Christ’s love to life within our parishes, agencies, and communities.

Throughout the evening, there was a strong sense of shared mission and gratitude for service that is often offered quietly and faithfully, without recognition. Bishop Brian acknowledged the depth of commitment present in the room, highlighting how each person’s contribution strengthens the Church’s witness and outreach.

A particularly moving moment was dedicated to Marg Chittick, Team Leader – Child Safety and Professional Services within People and Culture, who will soon retire after an extraordinary 27 years of service to Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong and 14 years of service to CatholicCare Wollongong. Marg’s dedication, professionalism, and steadfast faith have touched countless lives across the diocese, leaving a lasting legacy of care and integrity.

In his address, Bishop Brian beautifully captured the spirit of the gathering, saying:

“Who you are gives witness to our mission to be bearers of Christ’s love, and for that I am immensely thankful.”

The Bishop’s Thank You Gathering remains a valued moment in the diocesan calendar, a chance to come together in gratitude, to honour faithful service, and to recognise the people whose lives and work boldly proclaim the Gospel each day.
