Forgiveness is the greatest gift you can give yourself!

The nation’s heart bled for Leila and Danny Abdallah when a 2020 horror crash involving a drunk driver took the lives of three of their children and their niece.

One year on from the tragedy, the grieving parents shocked Australians everywhere when they publicly forgave the driver who killed Sienna, 8, Angelina, 12, and Antony, 13, alongside their cousin Veronique Sakr, 11, at Oatlands on February 1, 2020.

In December 2020, the Abdallah and Sakr families founded the i4Give Foundation, which aims to increase forgiveness amongst communities.

“Forgiveness gives you freedom and allows you to live your life peacefully ….. We chose to turn our tragedy into a greater goodness. We chose to carry our cross with dignity. We chose forgiveness and love over hatred…” said Leila.

Their heartbreaking story and incredible acts of forgiveness have inspired not just a nation, but the world.

In June 2022 Danny and Leila were invited by Pope Francis to share their story at the World Meeting of Families in Rome. And in September 2022 Prime Minister Anthony Albanese invited Daniel to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth ll, along with 10 other Australians for “extraordinary contributions to their communities”, citing his founding of the i4Give Foundation and its influence within Australian communities. Also in 2022 the family delighted the nation with news that they had welcomed a baby girl, Selina (and now in 2024, they are preparing to welcome another baby).
