Stan Grant

Journalist, Author, Moral Philosopher, Film Maker & Communicator

Few voices in the modern era possess the gravity and global perspective of Stan Grant. A Wiradjuri, Kamilaroi, and Dharrawal man, Grant has spent four decades on the front lines of history, from the end of apartheid in South Africa to the secretive landscapes of North Korea.

As a trailblazing journalist and former CNN correspondent, he has navigated the world’s most intense zones of conflict and power, witnessing first hand how identity and belief can both shatter and sustain a society. Now, having completed his Doctor of Theology and a leader of Charles Sturt University’s Yindyamarra Nguluway Institute, he turns his formidable intellect toward one of the most pressing dilemmas of our time: “Privacy of faith and the public nature of its expression.”

In an age characterized by increasing hostility and the failure of traditional political language, Grant offers a rare and necessary bridge. He is a man of profound intersections—an award-winning author of seven books, a filmmaker, and a scholar who blends the complexities of quantum physics with the ancient wisdom of his Indigenous heritage. Having faced personal and systemic vilification with courage, he does not speak from a place of academic detachment, but from a lived commitment to justice and peace.

Listening to Stan Grant is an invitation to move beyond the superficial divides that define our public discourse. He challenges us to find “new words” to meet one another, advocating for a moral duty that embraces even those who may hate us while standing fiercely with the afflicted. In this exploration of faith, Grant provides a masterclass in how we might carry our deepest, most private convictions into a public square that desperately needs more grace and less grievance.

Do not miss the opportunity to hear a global thinker demand that we—and our world—do better.

Catholic Business Connections (CBC) is an opportunity for professional and business women and men in our diocese (active and retired) who share common values, to network and engage with each other and leaders representing the diocese. CBC gathers three times a year, for two luncheons and one dinner, to listen to guest speakers chosen to inspire with their unique story and share how they relate their work and spiritual life experience to the context of living in a modern world. Members are also invited to attend Bishop Brian’s End of Year Thank You Gathering.
