Bishop blesses newly renovated offices in Wollongong

May 27, 2021

Staff from the Office of the Bishop, Catholic Development Fund, Marriage Tribunal, CeNet and Cathedral Books and Gifts were joined by representatives from CatholicCare and Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong yesterday for the official blessing by Bishop Brian Mascord of the newly renovated Xavier Centre offices and conference centre in Wollongong.

The renovations were undertaken during the COVID lockdown period in 2020 and staff moved into their new spaces at Easter this year.

It was a beautiful time of prayer and thanksgiving together followed by a wonderful meal of fellowship. Bishop Brian honoured those before us who lived and worked in this space, including the traditional custodians—the Dharwal peoples; pioneer priest—Fr John Rigney and the parish pioneer families; the Good Samaritan Sisters—Mother Angela Carroll, Srs Casimir Callachor, Augustine Donovan, Philomena Maloney and de Sales Maloney; Bishops Thomas McCabe, William Murray, Philip Wilson, Peter Ingham and support staff who have worked in the building over the years.

A big thanks to all at the Office of the Bishop that helped make the blessing such a grace-filled occasion. May we never forget the honour it is to work from the people of God in the Diocese of Wollongong and me we live the words of blessing from Bishop Brian in our beautiful new workplace: “We gather in this sacred space to remind ourselves that Jesus is the heart and inspiration of all our endeavours, where we know and learn to be ‘Bearers of Christ’s Love’.”
