Sunday Mass online with Bishop Brian

Each Sunday at 9am AEST, we will be continuing to broadcast Sunday Mass online with Bishop Brian and other clergy from Lumen Christi Catholic Parishes Wollongong. You can watch them above or on our YouTube Channel or Facebook page.

These online Masses give parishioners throughout the Illawarra, Macarthur, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands (and everyone else watching from around the world) the opportunity to join with their bishop and make an act of spiritual Communion together as a diocese.

Lumen Christi Catholic Parishes Wollongong are also livestreaming weekday Masses from the Cathedral House in Wollongong Tuesdays—Fridays 12:10pm. These Masses are celebrated by clergy from Lumen Christi, including Bishop Brian and our vicar general, Fr Bernard Gordon. You can watch these Masses on the Lumen Christi YouTube Channel.

It has long been a Catholic understanding that when circumstances prevent one from receiving Holy Communion, it is possible to make an act of spiritual Communion which is a source of grace. Spiritual Communion means uniting one’s self in prayer with Christ’s sacrifice and worshipping him in his Body and Blood. Acts of spiritual Communion increase our desire to receive sacramental Communion and help us avoid the sins that would make us unable to receive Holy Communion worthily.

During this period of time where Masses in the diocese are suspended, parishes are going to need the financial support of parishioners more than ever as their overhead costs will not change. As the vast majority of parishioners give physically to their parish in the first and second collection baskets during Mass, we are encouraging all parishioners to join the electronic parish planned giving program. We have created a page on our diocesan website with two simple options for parishioners to give to their parish electronically.
