Winga Myamly Reconciliation Group - Minto
Aboriginal Catholic Ministry coordinated by Brown Sisters.
"Winga Myamly" means "sit down and talk" in the "Wiradjuri" language. This is the name given to the Minto Reconciliation Group which brings together aboriginal and non-aboriginal people from the Macarthur Region. The group has been formed by the Catholic Aboriginal Ministry based at Minto (near Campbelltown).
Our main objective is to "raise awareness of issues and promote partnerships".
We do this in a very laid-back way.
We meet over a shared lunch. Children are welcome.
We discuss events and issues of a local, State or Federal nature.
For those of us who are not aborigines, the group is a wonderful way to meet aboriginal people and listen to their stories.
We also educate ourselves by reading, watching videos, listening to guest speakers and sharing information.
We reach out to the wider community through information stalls and participation in community events.
Winga Myamly - Minto Reconciliation Group meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 12 noon until 2pm for a lunch meeting.
We welcome you, your comments, your ideas and your participation in our efforts to achieve reconciliation and social justice.
Our members, including representation from the local Aboriginal community, are drawn from the Macarthur region."All Are Welcome"
The Convenors of the group are Kerry McDermott and Ann Madsen
