CELEBRATING NAIDOC WEEK – Change, The Next Step is Ours
NAIDOC stands for the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can NAIDOC be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Indigenous Australians. Today, NAIDOC is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and an opportunity to recognise the contributions of Indigenous Australians in various fields. Our Diocese encompasses the traditional lands of the Dharawal, Tharawal, Gundungurra and Yuin nations. We acknowledge the enduring stewardship of our traditional aboriginal owners. There will be a Diocesan Ecumenical Service for NAIDOC week celebrated by Bishop Peter Ingham at St Michael's Church, 20 North Street, Nowra at 2.00pm on Sunday, 3 July. The theme for this year's celebration is: "Change – The Next Step is Ours." All are welcome.

During last year’s diocesan pastoral planning consultation, there was very strong feedback regarding the desire to deepen our understanding and experience of the Eucharist. As one way of honouring this desire, our Diocese is encouraged to focus our prayer and reflection on the Eucharist and Eucharistic life during the week of 26 June to 3 July. We hope to take to heart the words of St Augustine, “you are what you have received” and the words of the fourth Eucharistic prayer “that they may truly become a living sacrifice in Christ to the praise of your glory.” Spend time with God reflecting on how you may deepen your experience of the Eucharist.
