Spirit Alive
Huge Catholic Expo in the Macarthur on Sat 26 May
The Catholic Diocese of Wollongong is opening up its doors at John Terry Catholic High School, Rosemeadow this Saturday in what promises to be a massive festival celebration of all the different ways the Church is involved in the life of the broader community. There will be free rides for the kids, food from around the world and great music from local performers.
The Spirit Alive Festival will be the largest Catholic celebration in the Macarthur since World Youth Day 2008, and Bishop Peter Ingham has been busy spreading the word: “There’s going to be something for everyone and not just for Catholics. Everyone is invited! There will be over 100 stalls exploring the many ways we are involved in the life of families, young people, the aged, education, health and welfare. There will be fantastic national guest speakers and many interactive showcases in areas such as foster care, prison ministry and international aid.”
The festivities will continue on into the evening with Spirit Alive PM, a large celebration for young people. It will kick off at 4.30pm with a Youth Mass celebrated by Bishop Peter Ingham followed by a Vinnies BBQ Dinner and prayer, praise and worship featuring an outstanding live band and inspiring talks. All BBQ proceeds will go to support Vinnies’ youth programs.
Bishop Peter said: “When people ask me what does the Catholic Church do for the community, my hope is that by joining in this day, they will see the many ways that we are trying to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ in the world. I really hope that the broader community will come along and celebrate with us on this special day.”
The Spirit Alive Ministry Festival will be held at John Therry Catholic High School, Rosemeadow (Demetrius Road) this Saturday 26 May between 10am and 4pm. Spirit Alive PM Youth Festival will commence at 4.30pm with Mass at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Rosemeadow (next to John Therry High School) followed by the BBQ dinner and youth festival at the High School (finishes 9pm). Everyone is invited.
